Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Yes, he played in the National Hockey League, but Rob Murray's legacy is his performance over the long haul in the league that sends talent to the show. Murray's significant playing impact was rewarded Thursday, as it was announced that he has been inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame.

The 49 year old Murray, currently the Head Coach and President of Hockey Operations for the Aces, played in over one thousand games in the AHL. He was known for his grit...his ability to win faceoffs...and his knack of making the others on his line better.

And oh yeah...those penalty minutes!

Murray is still second all-time for time spent in the penalty box with 2,940. He amassed those minutes in 1,018 games, good for 7th all-time.

Murray was honored by the Springfield Falcons, who retired his number 23 after 501 games with the club.

Murray also served as team captain for 11 of his seasons in the AHL, a testament to his leadership abilities and trust the teams put in him.

"I was caught off-guard when I got the phone call, and got kinda emotional" said Murray. "What an amazing honor to be considered among the best at that level of hockey. I certainly didn't see it coming, but it is an awesome feeling...I'm excited, honored, humbled...thrilled."
