Mojica and Brito Blast the Lemurs to Victory

Laredo, TX - Jimmy Mojica and Javier Brito each homer in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Laredo Lemurs to a 6-1 win over the Amarillo Sox Thursday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

With the game tied at one in the eighth, the Lemurs sent Stephen Pearson up to the plate to start the rally. Pearson reached on an error by the second baseman that misplayed and routine ground ball.

Anthony Scelfo walked to put runners at first and second with no outs. Stephen Douglas struck out to bring Jimmy Mojica to the plate. With a 2-2 count Mojica turned on the fast ball and deposited it into the left field bleachers to give the Lemurs a 4-1 lead.

Later in the eighth Javier Brito helped to extend the lead by hitting a two run homerun to left that cleared the picnic area to give the Lemurs a 6-1 lead which they would not give up.

Leonard Giammanco started the game for the Lemurs and looked really good, not allowing a run until the seventh. Manager Pete Incaviglia removed Giammanco with one out in the seventh with the bases loaded. Chaz Roe came in and got the next two batters out to squash the Sox rally attempt.

Edwin Walker picked up the win, throwing two, giving up one hit, and striking out three.

Matt Lackie took the loss for the Sox, as he went seven, giving up three runs, on three hits, with two walks, and six strikeouts.

The Laredo Lemurs be home taking the El Paso Diablos through August 28th . This is the Lemurs last regular season home stand, so get you tickets now.
