
Modesto wins 11th straight, 6-1 over Visalia

The First place Modesto Nuts beat the Visalia Oaks Wednesday night 6-1 for their 11th win in a row. Juan Morillo got the win, his fourth of the season, throwing six strong innings. He allowed five hits, including a home run to Visalia's John Paul Davis for the Oaks only run. Mike Prochaska took the loss for Visalia giving up five runs over seven innings. Alberto Arias retired six batters he faced in relief of Morillo and Jason Burch pitched a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory.
Jonathan Herrera led off the game with his first home run of the season to jump-start the offense against Prochaska. Joe Gaetti, who had a three hit night, hit his team leading 14th home run of the season in the second inning. Modesto added three runs in the fourth on hits by Gaetti, one of three hits on the night by Michael Davies and Simon Ferrer. Ian Stewart and Rick Guarno had back-to-back two-out doubles in the fifth inning and the sixth run came in on a balk in the ninth inning off reliever Tony Peguero.
Overall the Nuts are now 48-33, 16 games over .500 and in first place by 2 ½ games.
The series concludes Thursday night as Steven Register goes to the mound for Modesto against the Oaks' Jeremy Flanagan. Game time at John Thurman Field is 7:05 p.m.
