Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory, NC - The Crawdads offense broke out on Sunday afternoon in a 10-8 victory over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws to split the six-game series.
The 10 runs were a high-water mark for the club, as the club also collected 11 hits on the day. The 11 hits are also a team high on the new year.
Leading the charge for Hickory on Sunday was Tucker Mitchell, who launched a fourth inning grand slam to left to give the Crawdads an 8-2 lead. The grand slam was the critical hit in a five-run outburst for the 'Dads, who also got an RBI single from Yeison Morrobel in the frame to set up Mitchell's heroics.
Morrobel's day included a two-run double in the third that reclaimed the lead for Hickory in the second. The three RBI are the first of the year for the native of the Dominican Republic.
In the seventh, Yosy Galan drilled a pitch over the left-center field wall for his first homer of the year to stretch the lead to 10-3 for the 'Dads. The blast for Galan was one of five extra-base hits on the day for Hickory.
Morrobel, Daniel Mateo, and Sebastian Walcott paced the 11-hit attack for the Crawdads, with each having a multi-hit day. Ben Blackwell reached three times in the contest, drawing three walks in four plate appearances.
On the mound, Luke Savage earned the win in his 'Dads debut, allowing one run on three hits in two innings of work. Larson Kindreich earned his first save of the season, closing down the Jersey Shore rally in the ninth.
The Crawdads will travel to Greensboro after tomorrow's day off for a six-game series against the Grasshoppers. The Crawdads Radio Network will air the final three games of the series this weekend, with pregame beginning roughly 15 minutes before first pitch.
