Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem Dash fell in the series finale to the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 6-4, on Sunday afternoon at Truist Stadium in front of 4,513 fans.
Winston-Salem (3-6) turned the ball to right-hander Riley Gowens for his second start in High-A and was impressive across the first four innings. Gowens allowed only two runners to reach across four innings taking a no-hitter to the fifth.
Offensively, the Dash had opportunities loading the bases twice trying to get Gowens run support but hit into two inning ending double plays keeping the game scoreless through four.
In the fifth, Greensboro (6-3) struck with two outs. After Gowens retired the first two batters he saw, Josiah Sightler doubled off the wall in center and the next batter, Shawn Ross, hit a two-run homer to left giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.
The Dash started to chip away in the seventh. Samuel Zavala led off the frame with a double and Jordan Sprinkle traded places with him on a double cutting the deficit in half, 2-1.
In the ninth, Greensboro tacked on four runs, including a three-run home run by Hudson Head, but Winston-Salem did not go down quietly in the bottom half. After two runners reached, Shawn Goosenberg smoked a triple off the top of the wall in right center, cutting the deficit in half, 6-3. Goosenberg was brought home on a RBI single but the Grasshoppers held on, dropping Winston-Salem, 6-4.
The Dash return to action on Tuesday evening in Bowling Green, Kentucky against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, the High-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Bowling Green Ballpark.
