
Mississippi Hires New Training Staff

BILOXI, Miss. â Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and coach Bob Woods announced today that he has hired Greg Sieg (SEEG) as equipment manager and Step Roberts as athletic trainer.
Sieg brings four years of championship experience to the Sea Wolves. Last season, he served as equipment manager for the World Hockey Association 2 Champion Jacksonville Barracudas. A native of Penticton, British Columbia, Sieg spent two seasons as the athletic trainer/equipment manager in his home province for the Vernon Vipers, including being part of the 1996 Canadian Junior âA' National Championship. During the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons, Sieg was equipment manager for back-to-back championships with the El Paso Buzzards in the Western Professional Hockey League. In 1998-99, Sieg took on the dual role of athletic trainer/equipment manager with the WPHL's Amarillo Rattlers. After working as equipment manager for Corpus Christi of the WPHL in 1999-00, Sieg spent three seasons with the Louisiana IceGators of the ECHL from 2000-03. Greg also has experience working training camps for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League and Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. Sieg has an Associates Degree in Physical Education and Social Science from Capilano College, and a B.A. in Sports Medicine from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Greg and his wife, Cynthia, who works for Clear Channel Communications, reside in Biloxi.
"It's great to be back working in the ECHL," said Sieg. "Everyone says great things about Mississippi's organization and I am excited to be a part of it. I've been fortunate to be on winning teams in the past and I hope it happens again this season."
Roberts is in his first season with the Sea Wolves, contracted through Gulf Coast Physical Therapy. Roberts comes to the team from Mississippi Sports Medicine where he worked mainly with high schools. His prior hockey experience was in 2002-03 with the Jackson Bandits of the ECHL. A NATA Certified Athletic Trainer with a Bachelor of Science from Delta State University in Cleveland Miss., Roberts was a five-time NCAA All-American in swimming. In 2002-03, Roberts worked as the athletic trainer for the Jackson Bandits of the ECHL. Step and his wife, Lesley, who was a diver and cheerleader at Delta State, live in Gulfport.
"I am really excited about joining the Sea Wolves and to be back in hockey," said Roberts. "I got my feet wet with Jackson a couple years ago and I look to bring forward to bringing that ECHL experience learned to this position."
"Both Greg and Step are well respected and come highly recommended," said Woods. "I'm very comfortable with the new training staff. Both guys have ECHL experience and I think that they will be a great fit for the Sea Wolves organization."
Mississippi opens their ninth ECHL season at home on October 22 against the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
