Mississippi Braves News Release
Mississippi and Montgomery played another wild one Friday night, but this time the Braves came out on top. The Braves matched a team-high by scoring 14 runs and drawing 10 walks on their way to a 14-5 win over the Biscuits.
The M-Braves took a 2-0 lead in the third when Ray Serrano and Van Pope drew back-to-back walks to start the third. Carl Loadenthal bunted them over and Serrano came in to score the game's first run on a passed ball. Pope moved up to third on the play and came in to score on a 4-3 groundout by Brent Lillibridge.
Not to be outdone, Montgomery came back in the top of the fourth. Reid Brignac led off with a single and Evan Longoria drew a walk to put runners on first and second. John Jaso then hit a ground-rule double that plated Brignac and put runners at second and third with no one out. Back-to-back sac flies brought Longoria and Jaso to the plate to give the Biscuits a 3-2 advantage.
Jason Pridie led off the fifth with a triple off the center field wall and Brooks Badeaux singled to center brining Pridie to the plate to extend the Biscuits lead to 4-2.
Mississippi cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Greg Creek and Serrano drew walks to lead off the inning and Van Pope loaded the bases when his sacrifice bunt attempt was misplayed by James Houser. Loadenthal then hit into a 6-4-3 double play that brought Creek to the plate making the score 4-3, Biscuits.
The M-Braves came back to tie the score in the sixth. Matt Esquivel drew a one-out walk, stole second to get into scoring position and came in to score on a broken-bat single up the middle by Josh Burrus. Greg Creek then singled to left moving Burrus to third and Serrano drew his third walk of the night to load the bases for Pope. Pope bounced to short, but the normally sure-handed Reid Brignac made an errant throw to second trying to get the force out on Serrano. Brignac's throw went into right field allowing Burrus, Creek, and Serrano to score and Pope to move all the way around to third. Pope then came in to score on a wild pitch giving Mississippi an 8-4 lead after six.
The Braves added three more runs in the seventh. Brandon Jones started the rally with a walk and Matt Esquivel and Diory Hernandez followed with singles to load the bases. Josh Burrus then drew a walk bringing Jones to the plate and Greg Creek hit a sac fly to left scoring Esquivel. Diory Hernandez moved to third on the play and came in to score on an infield single by Ray Serrano. After seven, Mississippi led 11-4.
With two outs in the eighth, the M-Braves decided that they weren't finished. Jones walked, Esquivel singled, and Hernandez doubled down the left field line plating Jones. Josh Burrus then singled up the middle scoring Esquivel and Hernandez to push the Braves lead to 14-4.
John Jaso hit his fifth homer of the year in the top of the ninth to cut the Braves' lead to 14-5.
Jo-Jo Reyes gave up four runs on five hits through seven innings of work and left the game with an 11-4 lead. He improved to 5-1 on the year. Michael Nix gave up one run on three hits in two innings of work.
James Houser gave up three runs, two earned, on two hits through five innings of work and left the game with a 4-3 lead.
