Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Jamie Wise and Mika Partanen each scored their first OHL hat tricks and Brandon Maxwell made 28 saves to post his second consecutive shutout as the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors emphatically dropped the Kingston Frontenacs 9-0 in Ontario Hockey League action on Friday night.

The win not only guarantees the Majors a playoff spot, but leapfrogs them over the Belleville Bulls - who lost to the Sudbury Wolves - into sixth place in the Eastern Conference. The Majors could finish as high as fifth in the conference.

Majors General Manager/Head Coach James Boyd was pleased with another strong road effort from his club, and how they responded to solidify a post season position.

"We had contributions from everybody in the lineup and it was a solid performance. It's good to have a playoff spot wrapped up and our guys did a great job putting it away early,"

"We were sharp moving the puck in all three zones and kept the pressure on them all night. Jamie Wise and Mika Partanen had big nights and it was a very good performance all around."

Brett Foy with two and Spencer Cobbold were the other goal scorers for the Majors, who improved their record to 30-27-1-6 for 65 points. Dylan DeMelo and Riley Brace each chipped in with three assists a piece.

Wise opened the scoring at 7:24 of the opening period to give the Majors a 1-0 lead from DeMelo and Eric Diodati. Partanen scored his first of the night on the power play, assisted by DeMelo and Stuart Percy at 12:48 to put the Majors up 2-0. Just under two minutes later Wise responded with his second of the game to widen the Majors lead to three, assisted by Partanen at 14:37.

Brace found Partanen at the 7:10 mark of the second period for Partanen's second of the game to put the Majors up 4-0. Wise completed his hat trick at 12:24 of the second period from Brace and Jacob Graves, giving him his 28th goal of the season and giving the Majors a 5-0 lead heading into the second intermission. Shots were 16-7 in favour of the Majors after the first period, while Kingston led the shot clock 11-10 in the middle frame for a 26-18 Majors lead after forty minutes.

Partanen completed his hat trick at 12:26 of the third period giving him his 20th goal of the season from Brace and Wise before Brett Foy responded just over two minutes later with his eleventh goal of the season assisted by Ryan Duhaime and Cobbold to put the Majors up 8-0. Cobbold would close out the scoring with his ninth goal of the year on the power play from Diodati and Doug Harvey at 18:46 to put the 9-0 victory in the books.

Jacob Riley stopped 37 of 46 shots he faced for the Frontenacs, while Maxwell's shutout was his fourth as a Major and seventh of his OHL career.

The Majors went 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Frontenacs were unsuccessful at the lone opportunity with the man advantage.

Mississauga finishes their span of four straight games on the road when they take on the Ottawa 67's on Sunday, March 11th at 2 p.m. They return home to the Hershey Centre on Friday, March 16th when they take on the Barrie Colts.
