March 9, 2012 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

Freddie Hamilton led the IceDogs offensively with a hat trick as the IceDogs clinched their first Central Division title since moving to Niagara with a convincing 5-1 victory in Ottawa on Friday night.

The first period saw the IceDogs get off to a good start as Freddie Hamilton would strike just under seven minutes in to give Niagara a 1-0 lead. Ottawa would tie things up with just over three minutes remaining in the period. It looked like the teams would head into the first intermission tied until Freddie Hamilton rifled one by Mrazek with only seven seconds left in the period to send the IceDogs into the intermission up 2-1. Shots in the period were 17-7 in favour of the IceDogs.

The second period would see both goaltenders look solid, keeping the teams off the score sheet until Freddie Hamilton buried a pass from Ryan Strome on a 2-on-1 with only 50 seconds left. The goal would complete the hat trick and send the visitors into the intermission with a 3-1 lead.

With a two goal lead headed into the final twenty minutes, the IceDogs did not try and sit back, instead coming out flying for the third. Andrew Agozzino would force a turnover at the Ottawa line and break in alone, scoring to make it 4-1 only 1:52 into the frame. Joel Wigle would then be left alone in front and Myles Doan would find him, as Wigle put it home to make it 5-1 only 30 seconds later. Mark Visentin and the defence would take it from there making it a 5-1 final.

Visentin was solid in the win, stopping 29 of 30 shots for the victory. Overall the IceDogs outshot Ottawa 47-30 on the night in a strong team victory.

The IceDogs will now enjoy the day off on Saturday before visiting the Frontenacs in Kingston on Sunday where they will look to continue their push for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
