
OHL Announces February Academic Players of the Month

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for February, 2012, which includes Matthew Murray of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Brett Welychka of the London Knights, Mathew Campagna of the Sudbury Wolves, and Sean Callaghan of the Ottawa 67's.
West Division: The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the West Division is Matthew Murray of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Matthew has excelled academically while taking a very difficult course offering at Superior Heights Collegiate & Vocational School in Sault Ste. Marie. Matthew was able to attain an average of 85% in the first semester while taking the most challenging course selection on the hockey club - Financial Accounting, Environment Management, English, and Biology all at the Grade 12 University Level. In addition to the general difficulty of the classes, Matthew completed all courses while satisfying the requirements to attain his Ontario Secondary School Diploma in French Immersion. Matthew, a 17-year-old from Thunder Bay, ON, has shown the ability to balance an arduous course load while performing admirably on the ice and in the community during his NHL Draft year which speaks very highly of his ability to handle the rigours of life as a professional athlete.
Midwest Division: The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the Midwest Division is Brett Welychka of the London Knights. Brett, a 17-year-old native of London, ON, is currently a full time student at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School. Brett has been able to combine a season long work load of University Prep courses with the added focus of playing for the Knights and was able to excel at both.
Central Division: The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the Central Division is Mathew Campagna. Campagna, who turned 18-years-old today is from Mississauga, ON, and eligible for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft where he is ranked 120th by NHL Central Scouting. He attends Lasalle Secondary where he maintains an average in the high 80's.
East Division: The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the East Division is Sean Callaghan of the Ottawa 67's. Sean is an 18-year-old native of Strathroy, ON, who attends Hillcrest High School in Ottawa. He is a Grade 12 student taking University Level courses and is a dedicated student and athlete competing in his first OHL season.
