Spirit Fall to Owen Sound Attack 4-3

On Friday Night, Spirit fans gathered at The Dow Event Center to witness the ceremonial puck drop conducted by The Grind Line: Joe Kocur, Darren McCarty and Kris Draper, presented by Causley Trucking, Maier & Associates and Site Management Services. The Saginaw Spirit would then fall to the Owen Sound attack by the score of 4-3.

Owen Sound opened the scoring for the night with a goal by Mike Halmo, assisted by Gemel Smith and Brayden Rose. This was the lone goal scored in the first period. Both Jake Paterson and Jordan Binnington defended 14 shots.

Heading into the second period, there were a few fights which resulted in penalties. After twelve minutes of some rough back and forth play, Vincent Trocheck tied up the score by netting the Spirit's first goal. The goal was assisted by Brad Walch and Brandon Saad. The Attack regained their lead with three minutes left in the period thanks to a goal by Cameron Brace, assisted by Mike Halmo. Brace scored this goal shorthanded.

After defending the net for five minutes, Paterson saw one slide past him off the stick of Zach Nastasiuk. This goal was assisted by Gemel Smith and Cameron Brace. The Spirit now trail the Owen Sound by 2 goals with fifteen minutes left to play. The Spirit got back into the game with team's second goal scored by Brandon Saad. Zach Nastasiuk scored again for Owen Sound, this time off a pass from Mike Halmo and Gemel Smith. The Spirit would make things interesting however, with just one minute left, Brandon Saad netted his second goal of the to bring the score to 4-3. Despite the Spirit pulling Jake Paterson, they could not pull out the win. The Owen Sound Attack defeated the Saginaw Spirit by a score of 4-3.
