San Antonio Missions News Release

SPRINGFIELD - The Cardinals jumped on Missions starter Luis Diaz early and often as they captured the rubber game of the series Saturday night in front of 3,950 at Hammons Field.

Diaz allowed 10 hits and seven runs in just four innings of work. The right-hander tossed seven scoreless innings in his Missions debut last Sunday.

San Antonio didn't get its first base-runner until there was one out in the fourth. They scored twice that inning and added a pair in the seventh thanks to Taylor Lindsey's pinch-hit two-run homer.

Springfield, which was held to nine hits over the first two games of the series, matched its season-high with 12. All five Missions hits came in the two innings that they scored.

San Antonio struck out nine times in the game and 18 times over the last two games of the series.

NOTES: The Missions are batting just .215 thru the first nine contests....Nelson Ward extended his hitting streak to six...San Antonio has hit just .132 in six games against the Springfield bullpen.

TODAY: Missions RH Johnny Hellweg (0-1, 5.79) vs. Tulsa RH Chase De Jong (0-2, 4.00) 1:05 PM
