San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio rolled to an 8-3, series-clinching victory over Midland behind a balanced offense and a solid Double-A debut from winning starter Matt Wisler.
Wisler's much-anticipated, debut got off to a rough start when he found himself quickly trailing 2-0 after just three batters. Texas League batting leader Anthony Aliotti followed a D'Arby Myers one-out walk with his fourth homer of the season.
The Bryan, Ohio native settled down after the Aliotti home run, retiring the next eight Midland batters, with three of them coming via the strikeout.
His offense wasted no time erasing their early deficit against rehabbing Brett Anderson (0-1), tying the game in the bottom of the first with a two-RBI single by third baseman Jake Blackwood. An inning later, the Missions took the lead for good on an infield single from shortstop Jeudy Valdez.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kalian Sams' mammoth three-run homer off the top of the batter's eye in center, highlighted a four-run rally that pushed the San Antonio lead to 7-2. In just five games with the Missions, Sams has four homers and 10 RBI.
The RockHounds got one back in the fifth off Wisler (1-0), who allowed three runs on just two hits and three walks, while striking out six in five innings of work.
San Antonio capped scoring in the sixth when Adam Buschini singled, stole second and came into score on an Everett Williams RBI single. Buschini finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. It was his first multi-hit game at the Double-A level. Buschini's breakout game came a day after he hit his first Double-A homer in the Missions' 6-5 win Saturday night.
The bullpen took the Missions home from there, with Chris Rearick setting the tone by striking out four in two perfect frames. Robert Lara wrapped up the game with two hitless innings of his own. San Antonio allowed just two hits in the game, tying a season-low set against Midland on April 18.
San Antonio (19-17) travels to Corpus Christi tomorrow for a primetime showdown with the first-place Hooks. Donn Roach (2-3, 3.06) takes the ball for the Missions, while the Hooks counter with right-hander Carlos Quevedo (1-3, 4.84).
