Missions Take Series from Nats with 5-3 Win

April 9, 2017 - Texas League (TL1)
San Antonio Missions News Release

SPRINGDALE--Alberth Martinez' three-run double broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning and helped the Missions capture the rubber game of the series Saturday night at Arvest Ballpark.

NW Arkansas had knotted the game in the eighth inning when Donnie Dewees hit a solo homerun off Missions reliever Trey Wingenter. The homer denied a win for starting pitcher Enyel De Los Santos, who was outstanding in his Double-A debut.

De Los Santos allowed only one run and two hits over six innings while fanning six. The 21-year old is the sixth youngest player to open the season in the Texas League and became the youngest pitcher to start an April game for San Antonio since Keyvius Sampson in 2012.

Franmil Reyes collected three of the Missions 12 hits. Stephen McGee, Fernando Perez, and Nick Schulz added a pair of hits. McGee homered in fifth inning.

NOTES: The Missions collected only two extra base hits after clubbing 11 thru the first two games of the series. San Antonio has hit five homeruns over the first three games. The rest of the league has hit a combined nine.

Next: RH Brett Kennedy (8-11, 3.55 in 2016) @ Arkansas LH Kyle Hunter (3-4, 4.13 in 2016) 2:10 PM
