San Antonio Missions News Release

Last Night's Game: The Missions won their first game ever at Whataburger Field last night in dramatic fashion as OF Gary Harris hit his first homerun of the season in the top of th 10th for the Missions. Thomas Oldham, on his 23rd birthday, spun his best road performance of the year for the Missions tossing six innings and allowing only two runs, each of which were solo homeruns.

Today's Game : Game 2 of the five game series firgures to be a good one tonight in Corpus as the Hooks try to stop a three game slide and the Missions look to build on what has been an oddity so far this season for them...a road victory.

Starting Pitchers : The Missions send the Australian born Ryan Rowland-Smith to the mound to try and pick up consecutive road wins for the team. Smith in his last three outings is 2-1 with a 2.87 ERA. Ryan continues to baffle right handed hitters by holding them to a .218 batting average. His road ERA is 3.12, but he is just 1-2 away from Wolff Stadium this year....Smith's opponent is Corpus's fireballer RHP Fernando Nieve. Nieve has been one of the best pitchers in the league at times this season with an league high 51 strikeouts, but in his last three outings Nieve has been a little roughed up with an ERA of 6.50 and a record of 1-1. In his last outing against the Midland RockHounds on May 13, Nieve gave up six earned runs and three homeruns in five innings of work without earning a decision.

Welcome Back Luis: Missions catcher Luis Oliveros returned to the line-up for the Missions last night for the first time since last season and he made his presence felt. Oliveros was 2-4 with a double and an RBI in last night's game. Luis also threw out a runner in his first game back.

Harris and Harris: Not only did Gary Harris hit a solo homerun to give the Missions the lead and eventually win the game for them, but Missions reliever Jeff Harris tossed a scoreless 9th inning to pick up his team leading 4th win of the season his first since April 24. Harris is now 4-0 with a 2.63 ERA. The 30 yr old has been the backbone of the Missions relief all season long.

Give me the Righthander: Missions first baseman Nate Espy has been killing right handed pitchers so far this season. Nate is hitting .341 against them with a slugging percentage of .598 and an on base percentage of .471. Against the south paws Nate is only hitting .195 with a .220 slugging and a .283 on base percentage.
