San Antonio Missions News Release
Last Night...: The Missions spotted the Hooks a four-run lead in the top of the first and never closed the gap to less than two as they dropped the first in a three-game set 8-3 to Corpus Christi ... Missions pitchers combined to walk a season-high 10 batters on the night ... San Antonio left 11 men on base, going just 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position ... Mitch Canham ended four seperate innings, stranding a total of eight runners on his own.
Hangin' with Mr. Cooper: Craig Cooper reached base four times, going 2-for-3 with two walks, a double and a run scored ... he leads the Missions in batting (.316), hits (123), doubles (26), multi-hit games (38), RBI (69), on-base percentage (.405) and slugging percentage (.450).
Mr. Z: Lance Zawadzki notched his second straight multi-hit game and his third of the homestand, going 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored ... he is 6-for-15 with four walks, a double, four runs scored and an RBI over his last four contests ... Zawadzki has batted .364 (16-for-44) with five doubles, a home run, six runs scored and 10 RBI in 12 games against Corpus Christi this season.
Hunter, Gathering: Cedric Hunter collected hits in each of his final three at-bats, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI ... marked his first multi-hit game since July 27th against Midland and his first three-hit performance since July 5th against Tulsa.
The âPen is Mightier: Brandon Gomes has not allowed a run over his last 11 appearances, a span of 12.2 innings pitched ... Gomes has yielded only six hits and four walks while striking out 16 over that span ... he has struck out at least one batter in 18 straight and 24 of his last 25 appearances.
The Drive for Five: Over the Missions' last 23 games, they have scored five or more runs just six times, going 6-0 in those contests ... they have gone just 3-14 over that stretch when failing to reach the five run threshold.
