Missions Fall to Drillers in Game One at ONEOK Field

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions began a six-game series against the Tulsa Drillers on Tuesday night. With the help of 11 runs, 12 hits and four home runs, the Drillers took game one against the Missions who mustered up just one run on three hits.

Jackson Wolf was the starting pitcher for the Missions. The first inning proved to be a tough one for him as Tulsa plated three runs on three hits. On the second pitch of the inning, Jonny DeLuca hit a home run. Jorbit Vivas hit a single and advanced to third base on a throwing error from Wolf. After striking out the next batter, Wolf issued a walk to Jose Ramos who then stole second base. With two outs in the frame, Eddys Leonard doubled and drove in two runs. Tulsa took a 3-0 lead.

The Drillers added to their lead in the second inning. Brandon Lewis began the inning by reaching base on a fielding error from Tirso Ornelas. After recording a fly out, DeLuca singled and Lewis advanced to third base. Vivas drove in Lewis with a sacrifice fly. Tulsa improved their lead to 4-0.

Wolf's night was over just two innings and Edwuin Bencomo took over in the bottom of the third inning. The Drillers added their fifth run of the game on a solo home run from Jose Ramos. His fifth long ball of the season made it a 5-0 ballgame.

The Drillers continued to use the long ball to increase their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. After hitting Ramos with a pitch, Bencomo allowed a two-run home run to Diego Cartaya. Leonard made it back-to-back homers with a solo long ball over the left field fence. Tulsa improved their lead to 8-0.

Kyle Hurt was the starting pitcher for the Drillers. He allowed a single to Ripken Reyes to begin the ballgame. Aside from that, he tossed three scoreless frames with three strikeouts. Alec Gamboa added three perfect innings in relief of Hurt. The southpaw struck out four batters.

The Missions had their first runner in scoring position in the top of the seventh inning. Facing Trevor Bettencourt, Daniel Johnson hit a two-out double and moved to third after a wild pitch. He was left stranded after Ornelas struck out.

Tulsa made it an 11-0 ballgame in the bottom of the eighth inning. Facing CD Pelham, the southpaw loaded the bases and walked in a run after issuing a walk to Ramos. The final two runs came in to score following a throwing error from Reyes.

San Antonio plated their lone run in the top of the ninth inning. Luis Aviles Jr. and Reyes drew walks to start the frame. Juan Fernandez grounded into a fielder's choice and Aviles Jr. advanced to third base. Pedro Castellanos drove in Aviles Jr. with a single to right field.

The San Antonio Missions will continue their six-game series against the Drillers on Wednesday, May 3rd. Right-hander Duncan Snider (0-1, 3.31) is scheduled to pitch for the Missions. Right-hander Nick Nastrini (0-1, 3.86) is scheduled to pitch for the Drillers. First pitch is slated for 11:05 a.m. from ONEOK Field.
