VANCOUVER, BC - The Canadians had their chances, but the clutch hit never came in a 7-5 loss to the Everett AquaSox (Mariners) on a hot Saturday afternoon at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Everett sent eight men to the plate and scored two runs in the top of the first thanks to a pair of hits, two walks - including one with the bases loaded - and a run-scoring hit by pitch that gave them their first early lead of the series, but #11 Blue Jays prospect Dahian Santos managed to limit the damage and went on to retire the final nine hitters of his outing over four complete innings of work.

That kept the game close and allowed the C's to rally for a run in the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Josh Kasevich then four more in the fifth to take the lead. Three consecutive walks started that inning to load the bases for #8 Blue Jays prospect Cade Doughty, who laced a two-RBI double to put Vancouver in front 3-2. Up stepped Michael Turconi, who hit the very next pitch over the left fielder's head to score two more and make it 5-2 Canadians.

The lead didn't last long. Everett got to Naswell Paulino and Matt Svanson (L, 1-1) for five runs on four hits, a walk and a hit batter over nine hitters in the top of the sixth to go up 7-5.

The Canadians had six runners reach over the final four innings but none of them came around to score, most notably when they put runners on second and third with one out in the seventh but made consecutive outs to strand a pair. Vancouver finished the day with just two hits in 15 at-bats with men in scoring position, a rare dry spell during their 12-4 run over their last 16 games.

Turconi and Alan Roden both had three hits to pace the offense, the latter finishing with two doubles and a walk. On the mound, Devereaux Harrison and TJ Brock both put up zeros in their one inning of relief apiece.

Despite the loss, the C's will wake up tomorrow in first place no matter the other results around the Northwest League tonight. They can still win the series tomorrow in the finale; right-hander Hunter Gregory goes for the C's opposite Everett's Reid Morgan in a special Mother's Day edition of A&W Family Fun Sunday. The first 500 moms will take home a special pink-and-white visor when gates open at noon. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. with coverage on Bally Live, MiLB TV and the Sportsnet Radio Network.
