Missed Chances, Late Homer Sink Revs against Ducks

York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.) - Unable to capitalize on several early chances, the York Revolution dropped the finale of a three-game series against the Long Island Ducks, falling 3-1 on Thursday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs (28-19) missed their chance for a sweep of the Ducks (25-21) after entering the night three games ahead of second-place Lancaster in the Freedom Division.

Tied 1-1 in the top of the ninth, Cody Puckett reached when his popup to the right side of the infield led to a collision of Telvin Nash and Bryan Pounds, who let the ball fall to the ground. After a strikeout, Blake Tekotte unleashed on the first pitch he saw from Mike DeMark and sent a laser to the right field bleachers for a two-run homer.

The deficit was too much for the Revs, who got a two-out single from Nash off Duck closer Todd Coffey but nothing more.

Amalio Diaz (3-1) earned the win by pitching a scoreless eighth, while DeMark (0-1) was stuck with his first earned run of the season in the loss. Coffey's save was his seventh of the year.

Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision, as York's Matt Neil and Long Island's Jack Snodgrass traded blows through the early portion of the game. Neil finished his first quality start with seven innings of one-run, four-hit ball, walking none and striking out three on just 85 pitches.

Snodgrass's night was far more laborious but just as effective, as he allowed one run on seven hits in six innings, walking three and striking out seven on 115 pitches.

York went in front early as Isaias Tejeda and Joel Guzman tallied one-out singles in the bottom of the first. After a walk to Nash, Andres Perez worked a bases-loaded walk for the second straight night, bringing home Tejeda to make it 1-0.

Runs would be hard to come by the rest of the way, however. Snodgrass immediately struck out back-to-back Revs to leave the bases loaded in the first inning. Josh Wilson led off the second with a double but was eventually stranded on third. In the fourth, Pounds singled, Wilson doubled, and Jason Repko walked to load them up again, but second baseman Ruben Gotay made a fantastic backhand stop up on a Tejeda grounder for the inning-ending force play.

The Revs benefited from a Long Island miscue in the sixth as Pounds reached on an error. Michael Rockett then singled, and both men moved up on a hit-and-run turned Repko groundout, but Snodgrass struck out Tejeda swinging to get through his last inning without damage.

The Ducks made their move in the top of the seventh as Tyler Colvin legged out a one-out double. Puckett then dropped a single into left to move Colvin to third, bringing up Mike Blanke. Blanke hammered a groundball to short and beat out the would-be double play for a fielder's choice, scoring Colvin to tie the game at 1-1.

Nash and Wilson each had two-hit nights to lead the way for York.

Colvin finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

Notes: York left a season-high 13 men on base. The earned run was DeMark's first in 19 appearances this season. The Revs now hit the road for six games, starting with a Friday night matchup in Sugar Land against the Skeeters. Lefty Frank Gailey (2-0, 1.50) squares off with lefthander Aaron Thompson (1-1, 4.03) in the opener. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 7:45 p.m. EDT with Darrell Henry on the call.
