San Diego Sockers News Release

(Westport, Conn., October 27, 2003) – The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) has postponed the game between the Monterrey Fury and San Diego Sockers, originally scheduled to take place on Friday, October 31, at San Diego Sports Arena, due to the wildfires in the San Diego area. The rescheduled game date will be announced after conferring with team and arena personnel.

"The well-being and safety of the citizens of the greater San Diego area is the priority right now," stated MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan. "There is too much devastation and suffering for the MISL to conduct its game under the circumstances. We offer our prayers for everyone affected by these terrible fires."

Smoke and ash cloud the skies over San Diego County from three separate fires which have burned more than 264,000 acres, killed 13 people, and destroyed nearly 650 homes. President Bush has declared eight counties in California as federal disaster areas, including San Diego.

"The fires in San Diego have impacted all of us," said San Diego Sockers Head Coach Brian Quinn. "Our owner David Altomare knows the importance of real-life issues and believes that the safety of our community is our top priority."

Ticket holders for Friday's game can use the tickets for the rescheduled game. Further questions may be directed to the Sockers office at 858-836-4625.
