MISL Names Players of the Week

Published on October 27, 2003 under Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Jim Larkin, Cleveland Force

Larkin was outstanding in Cleveland's 3-2 overtime win in San Diego against the Sockers on Friday, October 24. The 27-year-old netminder turned away 14 of 15 shots (.933 save percentage) and allowed only one goal in 66:38. As a result, the native of Toronto lowered his goals against average to 2.83 and raised his save percentage to .793 (both second in the League). Thanks in large part to Larkin's efforts, the Force leads the MISL in defense entering the week (3.5 goals allowed per game).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Nick Stavrou, Dallas Sidekicks

Stavrou scored three points and blocked four shots in two games for Dallas last week. The 34-year-old tallied a goal and two assists while blocking two shots in Dallas' 8-4 win over the Philadelphia KiXX on Wednesday, October 22, at Reunion Arena, and rejected two more shots as the Sidekicks fell 3-2 in Baltimore against the Blast on Friday. For the season, Stavrou, a native of Worthing, England, has scored four goals and seven points (tied for third in the League) and blocked seven shots in five contests in 2003-04.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Daryl Doran, St. Louis Steamers

Doran led the Steamers' offense in a 12-6 win over the cross-state rival Kansas City Comets on Saturday night. The 40-year-old scored two goals and assisted on three others for five points as St. Louis scored the most goals in an MISL game this season. Player/Coach Doran enters the week with three goals and three assists for six points (tied for ninth in the MISL) in three games. Doran becomes the second Steamer to win Offensive Player of the Week honors this season, joining Steve Butcher (October 13). The Steamers lead the League in offense, averaging seven goals per game.
