
Comets Fall 12-6 in St. Louis

St. Louis, MO â The Kansas City Comets began a four-game road trip on Saturday night with a 12-6 loss to the St. Louis Steamers in front of 5,218 fans at Family Arena in St. Charles. With the loss, Kansas City drops to 1-2 on the season, while St. Louis improves to 2-1. DJ Horvath started in goal and took the loss for the Comets; he was replaced by rookie Josh Schreck in the fourth quarter. Brett Phillips gets the win in goal for St. Louis.
The Steamers raced out of the gates, scoring the first four goals of the game. Jeff DiMaria (4:59), Jason Cole (6:22), Daryl Doran (7:47), and Craig Scheer (10:52) gave St. Louis a 4-0 lead before the Comets' Dino Delevski ripped a shot from the left wing past Phillips at 11:44. The Steamers led 4-1 after one quarter of play.
St. Louis began another run at 3:46 of the second with Sipho Sibiya's first goal of the night. Scheer (5:03) and Steve Butcher (5:27) then created two goals within a 24-second span to give the Steamers a 7-1 lead, and Sibiya's second tally of the night, at 12:58, made it 8-1. Kansas City scored twice before the half was out, with Franck M'Bemba (13:28) and Miodrag Djerisilo (14:58) finding the net, and the Steamers held an 8-3 advantage at halftime.
Jason Cole accounted for the only scoring of the third quarter, at 9:05, and it was 9-3, Steamers, heading into the fourth. Delevski's second goal of the night, at 3:14 of the fourth, made it 9-4, but St. Louis essentially wrapped up the victory with a quick response: Steve Butcher and Aaron Susi scored at 4:10 and 4:53, respectively, to make it 11-4. Sammy Ekeme (5:35) and rookie Dusan Radovanovic (14:57) sandwiched goals around a Daryl Doran power play goal at 9:26 to produce the final 12-6 score.
Notes: The Comets have next weekend off before their road trip continues in San Diego on Sunday, November 9. Game time will be 5:00 p.m. Pacific.
