ZEBULON, N.C. - The Carolina Mudcats, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball, are thrilled to announce that Jacob Misiorowski was today named the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 22 through May 28.
The weekly honor was bestowed upon Misiorowski for his stellar home start on May 25 versus the Down East Wood Ducks where he totaled nine strikeouts over five no-hit innings. He began the best start of his professional career with 14 consecutive outs and faced just one over the minimum while working through the fifth for the first time and earning his first career victory.
The 21-year-old Misiorowski set career highs in strikeouts and innings on May 25 and set the tone for the Mudcats as he and three relievers combined on a two-hit shutout of the Wood Ducks in a 5-0 Carolina victory at Five County Stadium. Both Down East hits came in the ninth inning as Carolina's pitchers - Misiorowski, Jeison Pena, Nick Merkel and Tanner Shears - carried a no-hitter through eight plus innings.
In all, Misiorowski totaled nine strikeouts with five swinging and four looking in his award-winning outing. He also totaled 63 pitches with 43 strikes. The right-hander was a hit-batter away from finishing with five perfect innings.
The Milwaukee Brewers made Misiorowski the 63rd overall pick after selecting him in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Crowder College in Neosho, Mo. He made his professional debut on September 1, 2022 while pitching for the Mudcats. He went on to appear in two games with Carolina last season and returned to the Mudcats for the start of the 2023 season. Misiorowski's award-winning start on May 25 versus the Wood Ducks was the 10th of his professional career.
Misiorowski is the second Mudcats pitcher to earn Carolina League Pitcher of the Week award honors this season. Right-hander Aidan Maldonado was the first as he was named the league's Pitcher of the Week for Week 2, running from April 10 through April 16.
