Moncton Miracles News Release

(Moncton, NB) The Moncton Miracles, presented by Rogers, beat the Halifax Rainmen with a final score of 105-93. The Miracles now sit with a 11-12 record.

The Rainmen started the game with an early 1-5 lead over the Miracles. Micah Brand would then take it to the net for Moncton, make the basket and get the call bringing the score to 4-5. At the 7 minute mark the game was tied up at 7-7 with both teams playing physical at both ends of the court with Halifax already in foul trouble. With just under 2 minutes on the clock the Miracles had began to build momentum and were building on a 19-14 lead. The first quarter ended with the Miracles leading 24-14.

The Miracles defense would pick up in the second quarter forcing two shot clock violations in a row. Moncton shot 15.38% from the 3-point line in the first quarter and would continue to struggle from outside and work to get their points in the paint. At the end of the first half the Miracles were still holding on strong and still bringing the heat leading 48-31.

Halifax came out hungry in the fourth quarter and within 90 seconds had scored 9 points making it a 5-point ball game, 79-74. Two minutes later the game was tied up but would only remain close for a short period before Moncton once again pulled ahead.

Devin Sweetney led the way for the Miracles with 31 points. Micah Brand followed with 20 points and Sylvania Watkins dropped 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.

Joey Haywood was the top scorer for the Rainmen with 19 points. Tyrone Levett was right behind him with 15 points and Quinnel Brown with 13.

Halifax's Quinnel Brown was handed an unsportsmanlike foul and Tyrone Levett was fouled out of the game.
