St. Lucie Mets News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 5, 2015) - A bad bounce cost the St. Lucie Mets a chance for a ninth inning comeback as the Fort Myers Miracle clipped the Mets 5-4 on Sunday at Hammond Stadium.

The Mets appeared to tie the game 5-5 in the ninth when Amed Rosario scored from first on a double by Champ Stuart to left field. But Stuart's double bounced off the foul poll and Rosario was sent back to third base on the ground rule double. Yeixon Ruiz then grounded out to a drawn in infield and Jeff McNeil flew out to center to end the game.

The Mets held a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth but the Miracle scored three runs off of Robby Coles to take a 5-4 lead. Marcus Knecht tied the game with a two-run single. Ryan walker scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Mickey Jannis, signed by the Mets from the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League, make a terrific debut. The knuckleballer limited the Miracle to two runs (one earned) on three singles in seven innings. He walked four and struck out three.

The Miracle were up 2-0 until Victor Cruzado ripped a two-run homer with two outs in the fourth to tie the game 2-2.

The Mets broke the tie on a sac fly by Stuart in the seventh. They went ahead 4-2 on a sac fly by Matt Oberste in the eighth.

Miracle starter Kohl Stewart, the No. 4 pick in the 2013 draft by the Minnesota Twins, gave up three runs (two earned) in seven innings.

Stuart led the Mets offense with two doubles.

Brian Gilbert got the win, Coles took the loss and Nick Burdi was credited with the save.

The Mets (41-40, 5-6) and Miracle (45-36, 6-4) conclude their three-game series at Hammond Stadium on Monday. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on www.stluciemets.com.
