Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads (4 - 7, 39 - 42) were defeated by the Bradenton Marauders (8 - 3, 40 - 41), 2 - 1, in ten innings at Roger Dean Stadium. After scoring one run each, the teams went six innings before Bradenton scored the winning run in the top of the tenth. Bradenton's JaCoby Jones drove in the winning run with a single to left field.
In the first inning, the Hammerheads scored quickly after leadoff man, Yefri Perez, singled to center field to start the game. Avery Romero was issued a walk, followed by a groundout hit by Austin Dean to advance the runners. With runners in scoring position, Brian Anderson drove in his 39th run of the year on a ground out to the short stop.
Bradenton tied the game at one in the top of the third after Wyatt Mathisen reached second on a throwing error by Anderson. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and crossed home plate on Jones' first RBI of the game. Jones hit a ground-rule double to left field to score the tying run. After starting pitcher, Jose Adames, issued a walk to Austin Meadows, the Hammerheads turned a double play to get out of the inning.
After holding the Marauders to just two hits after six innings, Tyler Higgins entered the game and pitched two solid innings. He allowed one hit and struck out two in his outing. In the top of the ninth, Casey McCarthy came to the mound and retired Bradenton in order. The next inning, Bradenton led off with a leadoff single which later scored the winning run. Jones once again came through at the plate for the Marauders, hitting a single to left field to score Edwin Espinal.
In the Hammerheads' last try, Perez reached after being walked by Montana DuRapau. He stole second and advanced to third after a throwing error by Bradenton's catcher, Reese McGuire. With one out and Perez on third, Romero struck out making Dean Jupiter's last out. After hitting the ball to the first baseman, Dean hustled down the line and was barely beaten to the base after the ball was tossed to McCarthy for the tag.
The Hammerheads will continue their home stand on Monday, July 6, with the series finale against the Marauders. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Then on Tuesday, July 7, the Hammerheads will play host to the Fort Myers Miracle for a three game series.
