Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (27-13, 59-51) were handed their second loss of the month after they were defeated by Fort Myers Miracle, 13 - 5. In the longest nine inning game the Cardinals have played this season, they were outhit 18 - 12 and used five pitchers in the loss. At the plate, four Beach Birds had a multi-hit game.

The Beach Birds fell behind quickly after the Miracle scored four runs on six hits through the first three innings. Starting pitcher, Corey Littrell, suffered the loss, dropping his record to 6 - 8. After facing 25 batters through five innings, Silfredo Garcia was called to the mound. Garcia faced five batters and retired two, but Manager, Oliver Marmol, made the change for Tyler Melling to finish the inning.

Melling silenced Fort Myers' bats through 2 1/3 innings after allowing one hit. He faced eight batters and struck out six of them. In the top of the ninth, Lee Stoppelman entered the game but was unable to record the final three outs of the game. During his 2/3 inning, he allowed five runs on two hits and walked four. Trey Nielsen got the final out of the game, but not before he gave up two hits.

Although the Cardinals were productive at the plate by producing 12 hits, the offense could only collect more than two hits in two innings. After being down 13 - 3, the Cardinals two out rally fell short after scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Collin Radack and Luke Voit both batted in a run this inning, that being Radack's second RBI of the night. Radack went 3 - 5 with two RBI and two runs scored.

The Beach Birds will continue their home stand on Saturday, August 8, with game two of this three game series against the Fort Myers Miracle. First pitch for tomorrow's contest is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630-1828 or visit RogerDeanStadium.com.
