(LAKELAND, FL) - The Lakeland Flying Tigers overcame an early deficit and defeated the Fort Myers Miracle 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at Henley Field.

The Miracle jumped out on top in the very first inning. With one out, Nick Gordon reached on a two-base error, went to third on a ground out, and scored the first run of the game on a fly ball double to left off the bat of Chris Paul.

The Flying Tigers answered with a pair of two-run innings to take the lead for good. Wade Hinkle's two-run double gave the hosts a 2-1 advantage in the second inning, and then a sacrifice fly by Kade Scivicque and a run-scoring single from Mike Gerber increased the lead to 4-1 in the third.

Paul helped the Miracle close the deficit in the fourth as he led off with a triple and then scored one out later on an RBI ground out by Edgar Corcino to make the score 4-2.

The Miracle did threaten to score on several occasions, putting runners on base in each of the remaining five innings of play, but they were unable to push another run across. All told, the Miracle left nine runners on base for the game.

Paul, who finished just a homerun shy of the cycle, added an eighth inning single to give him three hits to lead the Miracle's eight-hit offensive attack.

Stephen Gonsalves (5-4) was the starting and losing pitcher for Fort Myers. He tossed five innings, allowing five hits and four runs, all earned, while walking just two and striking out eight.

The Miracle (30-32) and Flying Tigers (31-30) will continue this four-game series on Monday night with a 6:00 p.m. game at historic Henley Field in Lakeland. The game will not be broadcast on www.miraclebaseball.com.
