Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL - On Wednesday night, the Charlotte Stone Crabs ignited a manic, magical seventh-inning comeback to knock off the Clearwater Threshers and bring victory back to Charlotte Sports Park.

On Thursday night, they were a hit short of doing it again.

A seventh inning rally fell short, and the Threshers outlasted the Stone Crabs 4-2 on a raucous Thirsty Thursday at Charlotte Sports Park.

The Clearwater offense staked itself to an early lead against rehabbing left-hander Jonny Venters (0-1), who was scheduled to throw the first inning. Andrew Pullin, Scott Kingery, and Kyle Martin singled back-to-back-to-back against the former MLB All-Star, the latter of which brought home the game's first run.

The Threshers brought home what would prove to be the game's winning runs in the third against regular starter Greg Harris. Pullin tripled with one out and scored on a Kingery single to shallow left. Martin walked, and a passed ball advanced the runners to second and third. Zach Green took advantage with a sacrifice fly to score Kingery and swell the lead to 3-0.

Harris held serve through the seventh, when the Stone Crabs finally broke through against Threshers starter Shane Watson. Mac James singled to center to start the inning, and Grant Kay sacrificed him over to second. Ulises Joaquin replaced Watson and promptly allowed a triple to Alec Sole, scoring James. A groundout from Bralin Jackson scored Sole to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Stone Crabs could not find another hit, as Thomas Milone popped out to end the frame.

The Threshers picked up an insurance run on a Chace Numata home run in the ninth against Nick Sawyer to inflate the lead back up to 4-2. The Stone Crabs did not record a hit in the final two innings.

Charlotte and Clearwater continue the series on Friday night. Stone Crabs RHP Chris Pike (2-5, 3.44) battles Threshers RHP Thomas Eshelman (4-2, 3.52). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
