Minnesota United FC News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Minnesota United today unveiled the new 2023 'Northern Lights Kit,' presented by Target. This season, MNUFC and adidas capture the bold colors and dynamic movement of Earth's greatest light show and pay homage through the beautiful game.
From the beginning, Minnesota United has fostered a connection with our home state's natural environment. From the design of the crest to the very threads worn on the field, the breathtaking beauty of Minnesota has been woven into every inch of the Loons identity, including an evolving kit series that has featured the 2019 Drift Kit, 2020 Wing Kit, 2021 River Kit, 2022 Night Kit, and now, the 2023 Northern Lights Kit.
The latest edition of the club's kit series is on homage to an incomparable force of nature that has become part of Minnesota's culture. In this Land of 10,000 Lakes, we are fortunate to occupy a one-of-a-kind sightline to the Northern Light's dance over and across our rich soil, waterways and the state's Iron Range of the great North.
The "Northern Lights Kit' evolves the connection between our color palette and the natural world to create a uniquely bold and energetic design. This stunning gradient pulls inspiration from this ever-shifting phenomenon over a lake and tree line, with its vibrant colors reflecting in the water, fading back to a pure, clean river. These dynamic elements are also designed to mirror the outer façade of Allianz Field, and the way it lights the night sky.
A small but striking detail of the new kit reveals bright, energetic pops of pink stitching along the sides of the adidas 3 Stripes that adorn the shoulders of the jersey. On the back of the jersey, we see our six-sided star, a symbol with deep connection to our club's crest. The binding on the inside of the neck features the French translation of the Minnesota state motto, "L'etoile du Nord," or the Star of the North. One noticeable detail seen in year's kit is our Loon being showcased without our club's crest as the backdrop, a first for any Minnesota United kit.
The 'Northern Lights Kit' is now on sale at mnufc.com. Minnesota United is hosting a special on-sale at the Black and Blue Team Store, in partnership with Target, at Allianz Field, today from 4:30 - 10:00 p.m. CT, featuring a DJ, free hot chocolate and cookies. There will also be a special offer from Fanatics, in which the first 150 authentic jerseys sold at the Black and Blue Team Store will include two free supporters' tickets to the home opener vs. the New York Red Bulls on March 11.
As we continue to be ambassadors of the great state of Minnesota and highlight the importance of natural conservation efforts, we want to honor our state in ways that go beyond our kit designs. As we have in past years, we will be donating a portion of every authentic jersey sold in the month of February to the Save the Boundary Waters organization.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with MNUFC to bring awareness to the need for Boundary Waters protection," said Ingrid Lyons, Executive Director of the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters. "Minnesotans have a lot of pride in this state, in its teams and in its treasures like the Boundary Waters. We are grateful for the support of Minnesota United as we work to protect this special place for generations to come."
Target returns as the primary kit partner and will continue to be featured on the front of the jersey as they have been since the club's inaugural MLS season in 2017. Target will also carry the replica jersey and other Minnesota United merchandise on Target.com and in select stores following today's launch.
The Black and Blue Team Store will accept cashless payment only to reduce contact. Due to ongoing, nation-wide supply chain challenges, initial jersey supply may be limited.
Single game tickets for the first half of the season are on sale now. Check our website at mnufc.com for more information and follow Minnesota United's social channels for regular updates.
