Minnesota United FC News Release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - This Saturday's match is significant for both the 2015 NASL Champions and Minnesota United. After two weeks of impressive results against underperforming opponents, the Loons line up against the New York Cosmos at home with the opportunity to place an authoritative stamp on their season at NSC Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT - fans can watch all the action live on MY29 TV and ONE World Sports.
Minnesota United has won two consecutive matches in decisive fashion, scoring five goals while conceding none. As convincing as the Loons have been in their last two matches, the victories came on the backs of teams at the bottom of the table. This Saturday, United faces a real test with last year's champions, the New York Cosmos coming to town.
"A lot of very technical players, a load of experience, and a club that is used to winning, so it's going to be a heck of a challenge for us," said United Head Coach Carl Craig. "At the same time, I think the way we're moving forward-I expect a tough game, I also expect us to come away with a positive result."
The NASL Spring Season offers a small window for teams to capitalize and capture their first trophy of the year. This mid-season matchup is just that for both Minnesota United and the New York Cosmos, each challenging at the top of the table.
"We have to be sure that first of all, we come with energy and we come with fight, and then we come with a little bit of a home swagger that this is our pitch and our field and our fans and we are going to dictate the game," said Minnesota United midfielder Jeb Brovsky. "We can't have a team come in here no matter who they are and dictate how we play."
The Loons were aggressive in the home opener last Saturday, especially late in the match, forcing the Strikers into difficult situations and creating turnovers at NSC.
"Atmosphere was outstanding and I'm hoping to see a few more this week, particularly against New York which is of course a storied club," said Craig. "From us, I expect us to put our foot on the gas a little earlier and really drive the tempo of the game."
Saturday's match at NSC Stadium should be an exciting affair, with both teams coming into the match with something to prove and trailing the RailHawks by just three points in the race for the Spring Season title. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. CDT. Find tickets today and see the action live in Minnesota HERE.
