Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON - The heated Canadian rivalry between Fury FC and FC Edmonton resumes this weekend - the first of three battles between the NASL's two Canadian clubs set for the coming month.
Chapter one, the first meeting of 2016 between the sides, goes Sunday afternoon in Edmonton. Following that league clash, Ottawa and Edmonton will face each other in a home-and-home series in the preliminary round of the Amway Canadian Championship in May.
Needless to say, this-already intense Canadian derby will reach new highs this season.
Having faced each other eight times during Ottawa's first two years in the league - including five meetings in 2015 - the two sides know each other well and the battles between them are always tight, physical affairs that never lack for passion. Nothing less is expected this time around.
Though Fury coach Paul Dalglish is just in his first year with the club, he is well aware of the growing rivalry between the two teams. Having grown up in Liverpool, Dalglish is no stranger to the concept.
"It's nice isn't it? There is a big rivalry where I'm coming from with Liverpool and Everton so I'm pretty familiar with rivalries," said Dalglish. "I'm looking forward to it, those are the games that you want to win and it will certainly create excitement if we can win the Canadian derby leading to our home-opener. Any little thing like that serves as an extra motivation, so we are going out there with full intentions to win that game."
