FC Edmonton recently made an appearance at Edmonton's Operation Friendship Senior Society (OFSS), with several members of the Eddies first team visiting to interact and help serve meals during the evening dinner rush. Last year, OFSS prepared over 100,000 meals for seniors in need, with just a single cook in the kitchen.

It was a change of pace for the centre and its patrons, who were joined by Eddies defenders Eddie Edward and Johann Smith, as well as midfielder Nik Ledgerwood and striker Tomi Ameobi.

"Usually we at OFSS are used to church groups and service clubs," Jimmy Morrison, Community Relations Supervisor for OFSS explained. "It's awesome to get athletes in to help. Our seniors are just like anyone else, they're fans."

The four Eddies sat down with seniors prior to dinner for a casual hour of conversation ranging from soccer talk to fishing and everything in between, before pairing up to help serve that evening's meal. Approximately 100 individuals were in attendance to receive dinner at the centre, which is located just over two blocks from where the Eddies practice and play every week at Clarke Field.

"A lot of our seniors are soccer fans," Morrison added. "To see the athletes come down and show that they care, it's really something amazing. I told the players that came down: 'You're going to get no better reward than a smile and a thank-you.'"

OFSS offers services without judgement to improve the quality of life for seniors in need over 55 years of age. The non-profit organization began in 1969, with the initial service including a drop-in centre for local seniors who were being displaced by urban redevelopment and found themselves in isolation. Today, OFSS offers a variety of services that includes providing free meals to individuals in need, three times per-day, 365 days per-year.

FC Edmonton is Edmonton's professional soccer club. 2016 marks the 'Eddies' sixth season as a member of the North American Soccer League (NASL). The 12-team league operates within Canada and the United States. For more information on both FC Edmonton and the NASL, please visit www.fcedmonton.com.
