Minnesota United FC News Release
Just one day from now, the waiting will be over when the 2013 North American Soccer League Spring Season kicks off on Saturday, April 6, as Minnesota United FC hosts the San Antonio Scorpions at 7 p.m. CDT at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
"Saturday is an exciting moment for us, and an exciting time for soccer in Minnesota. We've had a great preseason, but now we're excited to get out there and get results in meaningful games. We're expecting a great crowd and a lot of energy, and I think we'll feed off that and make it a special night," said Minnesota United head coach Manny Lagos.
Heavyweights Minnesota United FC and the San Antonio Scorpions clash Saturday night in downtown Minneapolis. United FC knocked the Scorpions out of last season's playoffs, and have signed three players from the Regular Season Champions, including Golden Ball and Golden Boot winner Pablo Campos. The Scorpions are a new-look side, but under the direction of Tim Hankinson will still be a force to be reckoned with, having added veteran players to replace those who moved on.
The team that emerges on top of the standings after 42 games played between April 6 and July 4 will earn the right to host the 2013 Soccer Bowl in November, to be joined by the Fall campaign champion as the NASL adopts a new split season format for the first time since returning to the American soccer scene in 2011.
"We are all excited that the season opener is here. This is something we have been looking forward to since training started. Minnesota is a very good squad and have a couple of players that we know well, so this should be a hard fought game all the way through. We have to go in there with a positive mindset and our focus needs to be sharp," Scorpions head coach Tim Hankinson said.
Pitch-side seating on the field is sold out for Saturday's game, but great tickets are still available in General Admission (Open Seating) and Reserved (at midfield) sections. To purchase in advance, call (763) 792-7355 or visit www.mnunitedfc.com/shop. Online ticketing for the game is unavailable after 12 p.m. CDT Saturday, at which time all sales will be handled at the Metrodome box office beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday. Prices start at $14 for adults.
