Minnesota United FC at LA Galaxy Preview

Minnesota United FC News Release

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (Sept. 19, 2023) -- The Loons head to Los Angeles for the first time this season to face LA Galaxy for a midweek matchup. Minnesota has an all-time regular-season record of 2-5-4 (W-L-D) against the Galaxy, holding a record of 1-2-2 (W-L-D) in California. But notably, the Loons are unbeaten in their last four matches against the Galaxy. Before last Saturday's matchday, Los Angeles was unbeaten through four games but were recently defeated in the 'El Trafico' rivalry game against LAFC. Minnesota's seven-game unbeaten streak came to an end this past weekend, and Wednesday's match becomes ever more important, especially against the California side who is fighting to break into playoff contention. MNUFC needs to continue its defensive form against the likes of Riqui Puig, a key stakeholder in the Galaxy offense, in order to maintain its spot above the playoff line.

HEAD COACH ADRIAN HEATH ON RIQUI PUIG AS A KEY PIECE OF THE LA GALAXY ATTACK AND MINNESOTA'S DEFENSIVE STRENGTH...

"He's [Riqui Puig] a really talented player. You don't play at [FC] Barcelona as long as he did if you're not talented... and played on the first team. People forget he played a lot of games in the first team the year before he came here. He makes things happen. He's got lovely balance, a really good turner with the ball and then when he has space, he attacks it and then he can either pick a pass or he's got a really good strike outside the box. We'll have to watch him very, very carefully but we've proved that we can go to the [LA] Galaxy and win. We've gotten results there in the past. It's a big game. Let's go and play."

MIDFIELDER WIL TRAPP ON THE BENEFIT OF THE QUICK TURNAROUND AFTER THE RESULT AGAINST SPORTING KANSAS CITY...

"It's always good to play quickly after a loss just because you can flush it and move forward. That being said though, you certainly want to consume and digest what happened too. There were some good moments and some moments we want back. LA [Galaxy], another team that plays a similar shape and likes to have the ball, so we definitely need to learn from some of the mistakes from Saturday."
