
Minnesota Lynx Sign Forward Tasha Humphrey

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced that they have signed former first-round draft choice Tasha Humphrey. To make room on the roster, the Lynx today waived center Christi Thomas.
Humphrey, originally drafted 11th overall by the Detroit Shock in the 2008 WNBA Draft, comes to Minnesota after averaging 6.9 ppg and 3.2 rpg in parts of two seasons with Detroit and Washington. In 22 games, including 16 starts, with Detroit, the six-foot-three forward averaged 7.3 ppg and 2.9 rpg while shooting .500 percent (62-124) from the floor, including .385 percent (15-39) from the three-point line.
Humphrey was traded to the Washington Mystics on August 11, 2008 in exchange for Taj McWilliams-Franklin. In eight games with the Mystics, including seven starts, Humphrey averaged 11.1 ppg and 6.1 rpg in 26.5 mpg. Humphrey finished her rookie year 12th in the WNBA in three-point field-goal percentage (.382 percent). She also finished among rookie leaders in scoring (fifth, 8.3 ppg) and rebounding (seventh, 3.7 rpg). Humphrey scored a career-high 28 points against the Phoenix Mercury on June 14, 2008 and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against the Chicago Sky on Sept. 9, 2008.
In nine games with Washington in 2009, Humphrey averaged 2.2 ppg and 1.4 rpg in 7.4 mpg. The Mystics waived Humphrey on July 6, 2009.
Humphrey enjoyed a storied career at Georgia where she left as one of the greats to ever don a Lady Bulldog uniform. A four-time All-American, Humphrey completed her four-year collegiate career ranked first in school history in both free throws taken (666) and made (522), second in points (2,272), third in double-doubles, fourth in rebounds (1,080), fifth in both field goals taken (1,635) and made (825), sixth in starts (122) and seventh in blocks (119).
Thomas, acquired by the Lynx on January 30, 2008, averaged 0.3 ppg and 1.5 rpg in 10 games this season. The five-year veteran holds career averages of 5.0 ppg and 3.9 rpg in 155 games.
