Minnesota Lynx News Release

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx and ImpactLives, a Minneapolis-based non-profit organization, are teaming up in the fight against world-wide hunger. Prior to the August 28 Lynx versus Sacramento Monarchs game, and again on September 5 before the Lynx take on the Seattle Storm, over 5,000 volunteers, including Lynx second-year sensation Candice Wiggins, will head to Target Center to pack more than 300,000 meals to feed starving children and adults in the U.S. and around the world.

The two packing events are part of the 'Hoops for Hunger' program, a call to action to unite people from around the world to aid in the fight against world hunger.

"We are so proud to partner with such a first-class organization in ImpactLives," said Conrad Smith, Lynx Chief Operating Officer. "Hunger is a world-wide issue, and while our Hoops for Hunger initiative will go a long way in helping combat the problem, we cannot do it alone. We encourage everyone to come to Target Center on August 28 and September 5 to aid us in the fight against world hunger."

To support the Lynx and ImpactLives' mission to end world hunger, go to www.hoopsforhunger.org to purchase boxes of food that will go to help feed starving families around the world. One box of food costs $54 and contains 216 meals that will feed a family of six for one month. For every box of food purchased, volunteers will receive two premium-seating tickets to a Lynx game and be invited to return to Target Center on August 28 and/or September 5 from 1:00pm until 5:30pm to help pack the meals. The mission of ImpactLives is to make an impact on world hunger one family at a time.

"With the downturn in the economy, people around the world are suffering even more, as nearly 1 in 4 people live on less than $1 a day," said Ramon A. Pastrano, President and Executive Director of ImpactLives. "Over 1 billion people suffer from hunger here in the U.S. and around the globe; 25,000 people die every day from hunger-related causes, with children and the elderly being the most vulnerable. These numbers are staggering, but we can make a difference to greatly impact the numbers and reverse the statistics. We hope everyone will partner with us by purchasing a box of food and also come join us at the Target Center for this amazing event."

"World-wide hunger is an alarming crisis in today's society," said Wiggins. "It's so important for everyone to recognize that there is this problem, and we need to do whatever possible to help those less fortunate. I'm honored to partner with ImpactLives to participate in such a worthy and commendable event."

The packing events at Target Center will represent ImpactLives' two largest volunteer programs ever. To learn more about ImpactLives and the 'Hoops for Hunger' initiative, or how to volunteer August 28 and September 5 at Target Center, please go to www.hoopsforhunger.org.
