Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx announced today that point guard Lindsey Harding will be out indefinitely after suffering a stress fracture of her left patella (knee cap).
Harding suffered the injury while playing with the U.S. Senior National Team in China earlier this month. This injury comes after she suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the same knee on July 10, 2007, which ended her rookie season after just 20 games. However, Harding did not suffer any damage to the surgically repaired ligament.
"We are obviously very disappointed with the latest results on Lindsey's knee," Lynx Head Coach Don Zierden said. "I feel for her because I know how hard she has worked to rehab her knee since the injury last July. But at the same time, I know what kind of fighter she is, and this will just be a bump in the road on her way to a full recovery."
Harding, the first overall pick of the 2007 WNBA Draft, led all rookies in scoring with 11.7 points per game in 2007. She was second in the rookie class with 3.9 assists per game, behind only teammate Noelle Quinn. She was third among rookies with 4.4 rebounds per game.
"It was extremely upsetting to see my first season in the WNBA end the way it did, and I am just as disappointed with this latest setback," Harding said. "I would like to take this chance to again thank all of the Lynx fans for all of their support during my entire rehab process. I will continue to work as hard as I can to get back to full strength so that I can re-join my teammates on the court as soon as possible."
The Minnesota Lynx will open their 10th Anniversary Season on May 18, 2008, against the Detroit Shock. Season and group tickets are on sale now for this historic season. Be a part of the celebration by calling 612-673-8400, e-mailing tickets@lynxbasketball.com or visiting www.lynxbasketball.com.
