Minnesota Lynx News Release
This Week's Opponents - Los Angeles, Detroit, Phoenix
As the Lynx enter the second half of the season, they will be challenged early, facing off against three of the WNBA's most experienced rosters. Tuesday night the Lynx will host the Los Angeles Sparks, a team that has lost their previous three games. Tuesday marks Candace Parker's only trip to Minnesota in 2009 after missing the earlier trip due to the birth of her child. The Lynx beat the Sparks 87-76 earlier this season at home, as Seimone Augustus led all scorers with 30 points. Nicky Anosike also stepped up, scoring 16 points and adding four steals, but also shutting down Sparks center Lisa Leslie before the WNBA legend fouled out in the third quarter.
Friday the Lynx will travel to Detroit to take on the Shock for the first time this season. The Shock have gotten off to a rocky start this season, starting out 1-5 after former head coach Bill Laimbeer resigned June 15. The Lynx and Shock split two games last season with both home teams winning.
The Lynx will return home Saturday to take on the Phoenix Mercury for the second time in two weeks. The Lynx and Mercury have been an exciting match-up this season, with the winning team averaging 104 points (Mercury 104, Lynx 109, Lynx 99). In the most recent matchup, the Lynx beat the Mercury to finish the first half of the season 10-7. Anosike scored a team high 21 points, and Charde Houston added 20. Newly acquired post player Tasha Humphrey came off the bench to score 17 for the Lynx in the 99-86 victory over the Mercury.
Houston and Anosike Have Strong Performances at All-Star Game
Both Nicky Anosike and Charde Houston made their All-Star debuts Saturday in Connecticut, both offering strong performances off the bench. Anosike showed off her defense skills in snatching three steals and hauling in five rebounds. Houston played a solid all-around game, as she was one of five All-Star players from the University of Connecticut. In 16 minutes off the bench, Houston scored 16 points on 7-10 shooting (.700 FG%), hauled in six rebounds, and swiped three steals.
Lynx Add International Veteran Anna Montañana
The Minnesota Lynx picked up Spanish international Anna Montañana on Sunday.
Montañana's most recently played in the EuroBasketball tournament where she averaged 16.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in nine games for Spain.
In exchange for Montañana the Lynx released forward LaToya Pringle.
