Minnesota Lynx Honor Eight More Teams With The "Lynx Team Of The Week" Awards

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx are proud to announce the eight high schools that have earned the distinction of receiving the "Lynx Team of the Week" awards, which includes results through March 9.

This is the 14th consecutive week that the Minnesota Lynx have recognized one girls team and one boys team in each of the state's four classes of competition. The program will continue every week throughout the high school regular season.

This week's recipients are:

Girls Basketball

Class A

New Life Academy is the Class A Lynx Team of the Week after cruising to the Section 4A Tournament championship. The Eagles ousted Christ's Household of Faith, 76-65, in the semifinal game on March 6 and followed that with a dominating 63-29 victory in the title game over West Lutheran. The Eagles (26-3) have won 12 of their last 13 games. They finished the regular season an unbeaten 10-0 in Christian Athletic Association play. They have scored 67.5 points per game, eighth highest in Class A, and they have outscored opponents by 23.4 points per game, which is the sixth best point differential in Class A. The Eagles will face Rushford-Peterson on Thursday, March 13, in the first round of the Class A State Tournament.

Class AA

Caledonia is the Class AA Lynx Team of the Week after beating Rochester Lourdes, 43-38, on March 6 in the Section 1AA Tournament championship. The Warriors (26-3) have won 13 straight games heading into the Class AA State Tournament and 21 of their last 22 games. They finished 18-2 in the Three Rivers Conference standings, tied for first place with Kingsland. They have outscored opponents by an average of 14.7 points per game this season. The Warriors will face Jordan in the first round of the Class AA State Tournament on Thursday, March 13.

Class AAA

Austin is the Class AAA Lynx Team of the Week after sneaking past New Prague, 39-36, on March 7 in the Section 1AAA Tournament championship. The Packers (20-7) have won four in a row and 10 of their last 12 games. The Packers have held opponents to 44.8 points per game this season, the ninth stingiest defense in Class AAA. They finished in a three-way tie for second place in the Big 9 Conference standings at 14-4. The Packers will take on DeLeSalle on Wednesday, March 12, in the opening round of the Class AAA State Tournament.

Class AAAA

Chaska is the Class AAAA Lynx Team of the Week after edging Bloomington Kennedy, 44-42, in the championship game of the Section 2AAAA Tournament title game on March 7. The Hawks (21-8) have won four straight games heading into the state tournament. They finished the regular season at 13-7 in the Lake Conference standings, tied for third with Lakeville North. The Hawks will take on Osseo on Wednesday, March 12, in the opening game of the Class AAAA State Tournament.

Boys Basketball

Class A

Dawson-Boyd is the Class A Lynx Team of the Week after advancing to the quarterfinals of the Section 3A Tournament. The Blackjacks (21-5) have won five of their last six games, including a 74-55 win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in the regular season finale and an 83-70 win over Wabasso in the opening game of the Section 3A Tournament. The Blackjacks finished 16-2, first place in the Camden Conference-North standings. They will take on Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in the quarterfinals of the Section 3A Tournament on Tuesday, March 11.

Class AA

Kingsland is the Class AA Lynx Team of the Week after reaching the second round of the Section 1AA Tournament. The Knights lost their first 16 games of the regular season, but they have since won nine of their last 10 games. Their week included wins over Dover-Eyota (59-51) on Feb. 29, Hayfield (63-59) on March 1, and Lewiston-Altura (64-53) on March 3 to close out the regular season, as well as a 77-66 win over Cannon Falls in the opening game of the Section 1AA Tournament. They will take on Stewartville in the second round of the Section 1AA Tournament on Tuesday, March 11.

Class AAA

Columbia Heights is the Class AAA Lynx Team of the Week after closing out the regular season with three straight wins. The Hylanders (13-13) earned wins over Totino-Grace (55-50) on Feb. 29, Irondale (76-71 2OT) on March 3, and Meadow Creek Christian (90-75) on March 7. The Hylanders have scored an average of 71.5 points per game. They will open the Section 3AAA Tournament on Tuesday, March 11, against St. Anthony Village.

Class AAAA

Minnetonka is the Class AAAA Lynx Team of the Week after closing out the regular season with five straight wins. The Skippers (22-3) earned wins in the week over Edina (90-74) on Feb. 29, Hopkins (93-79) on March 3, and Minneapolis North (91-74) on March 7. The Skippers have scored 84.8 points per game this season. The Skippers will take on Minneapolis South to open the Section 6AAAA Tournament on Tuesday, March 11.

Each team will receive a Certificate of Merit, courtesy of the Minnesota Lynx, along with a spotlight on Lynxbasketball.com. All 104 teams will also be invited to a Lynx game during the 10th Anniversary season this summer.
