
Minnesota Lynx Honor Eight More Teams With The "Lynx Team of the Week" Awards

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx are proud to announce the eight high schools that have earned the distinction of receiving the "Lynx Team of the Week" awards, which includes results through Feb. 28.
This is the 13th consecutive week that the Minnesota Lynx have recognized one girls team and one boys team in each of the state's four classes of competition. The program will continue every week throughout the high school regular season.
This week's recipients are:
Girls Basketball
Class A
Southwest Star Concept is the Class A Lynx Team of the Week following three victories in the Section 3A tournament that pushed the Quasars into the championship game. Combined with the final nine games of the regular season, the Quasars (21-6) are riding a 12-game winning streak heading into the finals, which comes after losing five out of seven games between Dec. 20 and Jan. 17. The tournament wins include Murray County Central (47-44) on Feb. 23, Fulda (63-48) on Feb. 26, and Adrian (61-53) on Feb. 29. The Quasars will play Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in the championship game on Friday, March 7, with the winner moving on to the Class A State Tournament.
Class AA
Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted is the Class AA Lynx Team of the Week after advancing to the championship game of the Section 5AA tournament. The Lakers (24-5), who have won seven games in a row, started the week with a 60-49 win over Rockford on Feb. 22 to close out the regular season. They followed with wins over Foley (69-50) on Feb. 26, Pierz (56-54) on Feb. 28, and Eden Valley-Watkins (53-45) on March 1 to advance to the finals. The Lakers will play Holy Family Catholic on Friday, March 7, in the championship game, with the winning team moving on to the Class AA State Tournament.
Class AAA
Hibbing is the Class AAA Lynx Team of the Week after pulling off five straight wins, including two in the Section 7AAA Tournament to advance to the section championship. The Bluejackets (15-12) closed the regular season with a 57-51 win over Chisholm on Feb. 23, followed by wins over Duluth Central (41-34) on Feb. 26 and Hermantown (58-53) on Feb. 29 in the first two games of the section tournament. The Bluejackets will take on Chaska on Friday, March 7, in the Section 7AAA finals, with the winner moving on to the Class AAA State Championship.
Class AAAA
Bloomington Kennedy is the Class AAAA Lynx Team of the Week following three wins, including two in the Section 2AAAA Tournament that extended the Eagles' winning streak to 10 games and pushed them into the finals. The Eagles (21-6) pieced together an eight-game winning streak earlier in the season that was snapped by five straight losses. They have not lost since. The week began with a 68-49 win over Eastview in the regular season finale. The Eagles followed that with wins in the Section 2AAAA Tournament over Shakopee (62-60) on Feb. 27 and Richfield (58-45) on March 1. The Eagles will take on Chaska in the Section 2AAAA championship, with the winner advancing to the Class AAAA State Tournament.
Boys Basketball
Class A
Cass Lake-Bena is the Class A Lynx Team of the Week after running off four wins in the week by an average margin of 42.8 points. The Panthers (20-3) have won eight games in a row, including wins over Clearbrook-Gonvick (112-60) on Feb. 22, Blackduck (93-65) on Feb. 25, Hill City (115-67) on Feb. 26, and Laporte (83-40) on Feb. 28. The Panthers have the highest scoring offense in the state (98.5 ppg). They have scored 100 points or more in 12 games and 90 points or more in 16 games, going 15-1 in those contests.
Class AA
Crosby-Ironton is the Class AA Lynx Team of the Week after pulling within one game of closing out the regular season with an unblemished record. The Rangers are 25-0 after wins over Wadena-Deer Creek (92-71) on Feb. 22, Park Rapids Area (78-52) on Feb. 26, and Moose Lake-Willow River (88-69) on Feb. 28. The Rangers can close out the perfect regular season with a win over Aitkin on Friday, March 7. With an average of 78.9 points per game, the Rangers hold the fourth-best offense in Class AA. They have outscored opponents by 24.4 points per game, the second-highest margin in Class AA.
Class AAA
Hill-Murray is the Class AAA Lynx Team of the Week after doubling its season victory total in the week with a pair of wins. The Pioneers improved to 4-20 after beating Mahtomedi, 89-70, on Feb. 22, and North St. Paul, 63-49, on Feb. 26. Prior to the week, the Pioneers had lost 12 of their previous 13 games. The Pioneers are averaging 66.6 points per game, which is the fourth-best offensive output in the Classic Suburban Conference.
Class AAAA
Rochester Mayo is the Class AAAA Lynx Team of the week after extending its winning streak to six games following a trio of victories. The Spartans (20-4) have won 16 of their last 17 games. They pulled off wins over Owatonna (60-48) on Feb. 22, Faribault (57-55) on Feb. 26, and Albert Lea (80-49) on Feb. 29. The Spartans have held opponents to 54.6 points per game, the fourth-stingiest defense in Class AAAA.
Each team will receive a Certificate of Merit, courtesy of the Minnesota Lynx, along with a spotlight on Lynxbasketball.com. All 104 teams will also be invited to a Lynx game during the 10th Anniversary season this summer.
