Shock Signs Tyresa Smith And Michelle Campbell To Training Camp Contracts

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has signed former Delaware guard Tyresa Smith and Rutgers forward Michelle Campbell to training camp contracts.

Smith played her collegiate basketball for the University of Delaware, where she was the second leading career scorer at Delaware in addition to being the school's all-time leader in steals. Smith was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year and first team all conference her junior and senior seasons.

Smith averaged 13.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.8 steals during her collegiate career.

Smith became the first player from the Uof D women's basketball squad to be drafted into the WNBA, 18th overall, by the Phoenix Mercury.

The Detroit Shock picked up Smith as a free agent prior to their 2007 post season run after the Phoenix Mercury waived her at the beginning of the 2007 season.

Campbell played her collegiate basketball for Rutgers University, where she was named 2005 Big East Conference Most Improved Player and All-Big East Second Team by the MET Basketball Writers Association in addition to being named to the All-Big East Third Team by the league.

Campbell averaged 8.2 points and 3.8 rebounds and a shooting percentage of 54.9 percent from the field during her collegiate career.
