
Minnesota Lynx Announce Multi-Year Contract Extension with Sylvia Fowles

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team has signed center Sylvia Fowles to a multi-year contract extension. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
Playing in her 12th WNBA season, Fowles is averaging 13.7 points on 59.1% shooting, 8.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. The 6-6 center leads the WNBA in field goal accuracy (59.1%) and ranks fourth in rebounding (8.9 rpg). Friday night against Phoenix marked her 14th double-double of the 2019 season and extended her own WNBA career record to 163. With 11 rebounds on Friday, Fowles moved past Tamika Catchings (3316) into second place on the WNBA's all-time rebounding chart. The Miami, Florida native was named to her sixth All-Star game this season, contributing 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and nine rebounds in Las Vegas.
Acquired from Chicago on July 27, 2015, along with a second-round pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft, Fowles helped lead the Lynx to the 2017 and 2015 WNBA Championships; being named the Finals Most Valuable Player in each of those Finals. She was named the WNBA's Most Valuable Player in 2017, the first of her career. The three-time Olympian has racked up numerous league awards including winning Defensive Player of the Year three times (2011, 2013, 2016), All-WNBA First-Team selection three times (2010, 2013, 2017) and WNBA All-Defensive First Team seven times (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017).
