
Minnesota Lynx and Timberwolves to Celebrate Girls and Women in Sports

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - In celebration of girls and women in sports, the Minnesota Lynx today announced plans to host Girls and Women in Sports Career Day at the Target Center on Wednesday, April 28. The event will run from 4 - 6 p.m. and feature a panel of the top professional sports female executives from around the state, including Minnesota Twins Senior Vice President of Business Development Laura Day, Lynx Head Coach Cheryl Reeve and Minneapolis Star Tribune sports columnist Rachel Blount.
The influential business women will host an open discussion involving career advice, suggestions on how to get started in the industry and interview tips for students and prospective female sports executives. The event will also serve as an excellent networking opportunity for all business women and is open to all women looking to get started in the professional sports business. The two-hour session includes a behind the scenes tour of Target Center and those in attendance will receive a premium sideline ticket to the Lynx Home Opener on May 16, 2010, valued at $45.
"We are very excited to host the inaugural Girls and Women in Sports Career Day," said Carley Knox, Lynx Business Development Manager. "This exclusive event will offer insightful information to girls and women interested in the business of sport, and we expect our panel of distinguished speakers to provide valuable advice that will prepare them for their entry into the sports business industry. The event will also serve as an outstanding networking opportunity for all girls and women."
Other guest speakers include Candice Wiggins of the Minnesota Lynx and Dr. Nicole LaVoi from the University of Minnesota School of Kinesiology.
The package costs $35 and partial proceeds benefit the Girls In Action non-profit organization. Girls In Action was founded by Dr. Verna Price in 2005 at North Community High School. The non-profit now serves over 400 girls across Minneapolis Public High Schools. The Mission of Girls In Action is to decrease and prevent violence among high school girls while positively engaging them in academics and leadership.
