Miners Set Can-Am Record, Take Game Two, 6-4

The Sussex County Miners took game two of the series against the New Jersey Jackals 6-4 in historic fashion on Tuesday night.

The Miners set the Can-Am League record with its 14th consecutive home victory.

Previously, the record stood for seven years with the Quebec Capitales, most recently winning 13 straight home games in 2011.

Designated hitter Audy Ciriaco hit into a fielders choice in the bottom of the first inning that plated center fielder Jayce Ray for the Miners.

Second baseman Rubi Silva later drove in Ciriaco on a sacrifice fly to put the game at 2-0, Sussex County.

Jackals short stop Carlos Triunfel answered back in the top of the third by connecting for his second homer of the year. The solo shot cut lead to 2-1.

An error in the bottom of the fourth by Jackals catcher Kevin Torres allowed left fielder Connor Crane to score for the Miners.

Third baseman Mikey Reynolds followed with a two run double to score Ray and Ciriaco pushing the Miners tally to 5-1.

New Jersey hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the sixth.

Center fielder David Harris drilled his twelfth big fly of the year with two outs. Third baseman Daniel Canela then hit the very next pitch out for his fifth of the season, slicing into the Miners lead, 5-3.

Ciriaco lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to add an insurance run for Sussex County after Ray scored on the play.

The Jackals trimmed the lead back to two when Harris hit his second homer of the game in the top of the ninth.

Closer Alex Demchak recorded his fourth save of the year for the Miners, halting the Jackals further comeback push.

Casey Jones won his sixth game of the season, working six innings for Sussex County while allowing three earned runs on six hits, one walk and striking out two.

Fresh off of his Pitcher of the Week Award, Jackals starter Vic Black was quality in a tough loss.

Black tossed six innings, yielding five runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking six and striking out two.

The Jackals look to snap its four game losing streak on the Fourth of July at 6:05 P.M. in the final game of the series at Skylands Stadium.
