
Miners Drop Second Straight to New York

Pomona, NY - Despite scoring seven runs on the evening, the Sussex County Miners dropped a 12-7 decision to the New York Boulders as the home side celebrated their 10th Anniversary on Wednesday night in Pomona, NY. With the loss, the Miners have dropped two straight games for the first time this season.
Among the Miners highlights were a two-run home run by Martin Figueroa in the top of the sixth inning to pull Sussex County to within 6-5 at the time. Figueroa went 3-for-4 on the evening with three RBIs. Todd Frazier also gave the Miners fans a jolt when he hit his first home run as a Miner in the top of the ninth inning. Cito Culver had two hits and two runs scored, and Chuck Taylor had a two hit game as well.
But Palisades Credit Union Park victimized the Miners, as Sussex County pitching surrendered twelve runs on fifteen hits, including a pair of home runs by Zach Kirtley and a solo home run by Tucker Nathans. Eight of the nine Boulders starters had hits, with six of them having multi-hit games. Kirtley led the way by going 3-for-5 with his two longballs and four RBIs
The Miners and Boulders will conclude their three-game series tomorrow evening, with a 7 pm first pitch scheduled in Pomona.
