Southern Illinois Miners News Release

Marion, Ill. (June 13, 2015) - The Southern Illinois Miners announce that they have brought right-handed starting pitcher Adam Lopez back into the fold. He will be on the mound for the Miners tonight, Saturday, June 13th, against the Evansville Otters at Rent One Park, with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m.

The Fredericksburg, Virginia native started the season with Southern Illinois and was a dominant force on the mound, winning all three of his starts while giving up just one run over 22 innings of work and allowing only eleven hits. Owning an 18-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio, he also gave up only one extra-base hit in those first three outings. After pitching eight shutout innings on the road against the Windy City ThunderBolts on May 27th in a 1-0 Miners win, he was picked up by the Seattle Mariners organization, but his contract and playing rights were returned to the Miners without having pitched for them.

"This is bittersweet for us," Miners manager Mike Pinto said. "Of course we are thrilled to have Adam back with us. We are also hoping we can find the right fit with a MLB organization that can help Adam realize his dream of pitching in the major leagues. In the meantime, we know that we have an excellent pitcher and competitor as well as a great clubhouse guy coming back to us."

The Southern Illinois Miners are the 2014 Frontier League East Division Champions and the 2012 Frontier League Champions. They have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year award three times since their inception, and also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007, their inaugural season.
