
Milwaukee Wave Selects Five in 2005 MISL College Draft

MILWAUKEE (February 22, 2005) â Milwaukee Wave Vice President of Soccer Operations and Head Coach Keith Tozer announced today that the selection of five college players in the 2005 Major Indoor Soccer League College Draft. The Milwaukee Wave's selections consist of three Wisconsin natives, including territorial round (eighth overall) selection Brett Wiesner from the University of Washington.
"We are very excited about this year's college draft. Four out of five players are from Wisconsin and are among some of the top players in the country," said Tozer. "The fifth is from Brazil, to go along with Ricardinho and Hewerton."
Brett Wiesner, Milwaukee's territorial pick of the draft, is a Brookfield native who attends the University of Washington-Seattle. Wiesner played in 15 games for the Huskies, scoring two goals for four points. Over the course of his college career he played in 66 games for 15 goals. During his sophomore year, this forward led his team with 15 points and was selected to the All PAC-10 Second Team.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) supplied the first round, 17th overall pick in Trent Furtsch. Drafted as a defender, Furtsch was selected to the All Great Lakes Second Team in 2004. Originally from Shorewood, this local talent tallied seven points on two goals and three assists during his senior season for UWM.
Forward Chris Lee, from Lenexa, Kansas, attends Marquette University and was selected as the second round, 26th overall draft pick. Lee currently ranks fourth on Marquette's list for career goals (35) and sixth in career points (78). During his senior year, he was named to the All Conference USA Second Team.
Rogerio Oliveira, midfielder from Bryan, Texas, was Milwaukee's third round, 35th overall pick. Born in Brazil, he attends the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) and had a successful college career, collecting 27 points in eight goals and 11 assists. During his final season with the Blazers, Oliveira appeared and started in all 19 games and was chosen for the All Conference USA Third Team.
Rounding out Milwaukee's draft picks was Nick Van Sicklen from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the fourth round, 44th overall. Hailing from Madison, Van Sicklen started all 19 games for the Badgers earning 31 points in 12 goals and seven assists.
"Over the years, players like Jahr, Hammes, Schmidt, White, Marcantonio and now Dombrowski have become wonderful players," remarked Tozer. "This year's draft picks are very talented, and we look forward to them possibly playing with us indoor, outdoor or both."
