Steamers select four players in 200 college draft

St. Louis, Feb. 22, 2005 -St. Louis Steamers President and CEO Michael Hetelson, announced today that the team selected four players in the 2005 MISL College Draft.

The 2005 MISL College Draft was held via teleconference on Tuesday afternoon at 12:00pm CST. The draft consisted of one territorial round and four numerical rounds. The order of selection, based on each team's win percentage from their last completed regular season was as follows: California Cougars, Chicago Storm, St. Louis Steamers, Cleveland Force, Kansas City Comets, Philadelphia Kixx, Baltimore Blast and Milwaukee Wave.

The Steamers selected Lindenwood University's Elvir Kafedzic in the first round, third overall in this year's draft. Kafedzic played forward for the Lions and helped the team to a 19-3-1 record in 2004 and captured the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship.

St. Louis drafted forward Jim Levesque in the second round, 12th overall. Levesque, 21, played four years at Southwest Missouri State University appearing in 75 games over-the-span. The Wildwood, Missouri native tied for fourth on the Bears this past season by recording 11 points (two goals, seven assists).

In the fourth round, St. Louis selected midfielder Trevor Goodrich out of Georgetown University. Goodrich, a native of Palo Alto, California, posted 13 points (one goal, 11 assists) in 21 games played for the Hoyas in 2004. The Steamers final selection was St. Louis University midfielder Brett Branan in round five. Branan played his final season (2004) with the Billikens after playing three seasons with Clemson University. This past season, he was named second-team All-Conference and to the C-USA All-Tournament team and was named to the Saint Louis Nike Classic All-Tournament Team.

St. Louis will play this Sunday afternoon at Cleveland to take on the Force at 2:05 p.m. The Steamers next home game will be on Thursday, March 3 at 11:05 a.m. when they play host to the Milwaukee Wave. The next episodes of "Red Card" can be seen on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7 and 8 p.m. on KPLR-TV.
