St. Louis Steamers News Release

St. Louis, Feb. 22, 2005 – The crowd at Savvis Center for last Saturday night's Steamers game against Milwaukee was the largest MISL crowd of the season, totaling 13,798. The Steamers/ Ambush alumni game and the national exposure of Steamers player Lindsay Kennedy contributed to the high attendance numbers. Kennedy became the first female to appear in an MISL game, when she entered the game with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter.

"On behalf of the entire Steamers organization, we would like to thank our fans for their continued support throughout the season," said Steamers President and CEO Michael Hetelson. "I know some fans were disappointed that Lindsay did not play earlier in the game. The coaching staff decided to stick with veteran players and I believe they missed a great opportunity to put her in the game when we were up 3-1. We have the full intention of giving Lindsay more playing time in the future. We would also like to thank the Milwaukee Wave players and coaching staff for showing great sportsmanship toward Lindsay and acknowledging the tremendous crowd on hand."

Although fans across the country have been very supportive about Lindsay, she will probably not travel with the team to Cleveland due to remarks made by Cleveland players and management.

"Much has been made about a brewing controversy about putting a female on the team, but I expected our players to be professionals and support their teammates and come ready to play whatever the circumstances. An abbreviated version of last weeks premier of ‘Red Card" will air this Saturday on WB11 KPLR-TV at 7 p.m. and a new episode showing the behind-the-scenes controversy of the signing of Lindsay will air at 8 p.m. On Saturday March 5 the previous episode will air at 7 p.m. with the drama continuing in a new episode at 8 p.m.

"I sympathize with the fans and I am disappointed with the performance of the entire team. I do not want to take credit away from the other teams but our team has failed to show our full potential in front of our largest home crowds of the season including Saturday night's loss to Milwaukee. Team ownership and management is willing to make any necessary changes to ensure the city of St. Louis a winner. The great sports fans in St. Louis deserve the highest level of professionalism and a championship."

The Steamers have teamed with youth organizations such as DARE and Tobacco Free Missouri to bring local schools to the annual School Day Game on Thursday, March 3 against Milwaukee. Game time is slated for 11:05 a.m. Schools are invited to visit educational booths in the concourse beginning at 10 a.m. Student tickets are $8 dollars. If your school is interested or for more information, please call the Steamers at 314-613-1883. Additionally, each Steamers fan who shows their business card at the game, will receive a free DVD copy of the premier of "Red Card".
